About us

Hi I’m Rob, the founder of the BDSM & Poly Outlet! I want to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting my shop, and to answer some common questions I receive from customers.

Why did I start the BDSM & Poly Outlet?

I started this business because I’ve been in the BDSM lifestyle for close to 20 years, and I have a passion for helping people. When I’ve been buying sex toys for myself, I’ve found that most of the sex toy companies that are around feel very impersonal. Some companies just view each order as a number, not as a valued customer and person looking to explore their sexual world. I wanted to create something different, as I want every person to find exactly what they need to help them explore their fantasies. I have extensive knowledge of all of our products, and am happy to answer any questions or queries you might have prior to purchase. I try to keep our prices as low as possible, because I want people to be confident in exploring their sexuality whilst supporting a small business.

Why is Poly in the business name/what does Poly mean?

Poly is short for “polyamory” or “polyamorous”, a mentality & lifestyle that encourages romantic & sexual relationships with more than one partner at a time. Monogamy takes its meaning from “mono” (Latin for “one”), implying only one romantic partner in your lifetime at a time, such as traditional marriage and dating, whereas “poly” in Latin means “multiple”. Poly as a modifier in words appears in a lot of chemical names such as polyurethane (common plastic for food containers), and polyvinyl chloride (also known as PVC).

I am a proud member of the polyamory community, because I believe in much more fluid relationship dynamics than traditional monogamous relationships. Polyamory isn’t for everyone, but this site aims to cater for this community as much as possible, as when I’ve been shopping for items for my partner/s, I’ve not found traditional sex toy outlets to be inclusive of polyamorous relationship dynamics. I created this site in order to help serve that community as a result.
